Compost Prices
"As a result of the unprecidented difficulties with the peat harvest, manufacturers have reported an 18,000,000m3 shortfall in supply, there will be unavoidable increases in the cost of all, majority based peat based, quality retail and professional composts". This is across the whole compost manufacturing industry in 2012/2013 with all major DIY retailers and Garden Centres suffering up to 20% price increases due to the wet summer of 2012.
Despite the above we are determined to deliver the very best value for our members and have purchased in advance and therefore our prices remain unchanged.

Seed Potatoes & Spring Planted Crops
Due to the worst potato harvest ever our seed merchants have warned us that there may be limited availability across the country. Once Hagg Lane Allotment Society have confirmation that our order is available, we will publish prices and e-mail order forms as usual.
Latest Seed Potato Information from our suppliers Jamieson Brothers: "Due to unexpectedly poor weather, we currently only have 20% of our crop harvested. We will be unable to accept any orders until the harvest has been completed. We expect many varieties to be in short supply. Current stock levels are set to zero as we have not yet made any stock available. Of the crops we have harvested so far, we are 40% down on yield and we are facing another 15-20% loss of the harvested crop, due to water logging, growth cracks and powdery scab. This is without doubt the worst harvest season on record. Like everything this year, prices have gone up, our haulage charges reflect that due to increase on their end".

Breakins Thursday 5th July 8pm
Last night we have had at least 3 plots broken into at the Back Lane end of the site. A white youth was chased from site by one of our allotmenteers in broad daylight at 8pm.
We have again been advised to let as many people as possible know who have suffered individual theft/damage to contact the Police (telephone 101) so they can quickly link all the reports together. No one else can report on a plot holder’s behalf and it is very important that everyone affected contacts them and gains a crime reference number to help build the full picture of the above incidents.
