Attempted Break-in
Last Sunday evening, sometime after 7.00pm, we suffered an attempted break-in at the allotment society hut. Fortunately the people were unsuccessful and we think on this occasion the suspects were disturbed. Thankfully only minor damage was caused. Police were called with DNA evidence taken, (Crime reference No. K/9704/2014), and we are appealing for any information in relation to this or the previous arson attack on the hut. It seems that we have attempted to patch up the damage from the arson attack but now have to be vigilant about the possibility of theft.

Allotment Shed Alarm, UV pen & Smartwater Day (Sunday 21st Sept 2014 10.00am-12.00pm)
After the recent arson attacks and damage to plots we have been advised to remind our members not to leave any valuables on site. To protect allotment sheds & tools in transit South Yorkshire Police has kindly given us some free allotment shed alarms and UV marking pens to distribute to our members. For any high value items in transit such as hedge trimmers, chainsaws, strimmers etc we will be holding a Smartwater marking day, this Sunday between 10.00am and 12.00pm, where our volunteers will mark up possessions free of charge.
Please could we remind all our members who have placed recent orders for Japanese onion and overwintering crops to collect ASAP. We still have availability of the following as per post dated 11th July 2014 below.

Deputy Prime Minister's Visit
We were pleased to receive a visit from our local MP and Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, on Friday. We showed him the recent arson damage the society hut has suffered and also shared with him our vision to design and build a secure new allotment community hut, which is fit for the twenty-first century. As a society we have been fundraising for the last seven years and the need for a new hut is now more pressing then ever. We would welcome any further fundraising suggestions, donations or offers of help.

Arson update
We would like to thank everyone who helped fill the skip with debris and helped make the building secure earlier today. What a fantastic effort. We are also very touched by the over 50 e-mails we have received offering your support (far too many to reply to just yet!).
We are meeting at around 9.30am in the morning to assess what needs to be done next.

Arson Attack 14.08.2014
Unfortunately the allotment hut suffered an arson attack last night at around 11.00pm. There is considerable damage to both the building and stock. The hut volunteers are on site currently but it is going to take a long time to clear up and we really need some help. If you are able to help either today or tomorrow morning, please turn up to lend a hand. It is quite a depressing experience for the hut volunteers to turn up and see so much damage, so if you are able to help out this would be greatly appreciated. As things stand we shall be closed until further notice.
There have also been further individual plot break-ins last night, presumably by the same group of people. We have informed some tenants we know to have been entered but it would be worth checking to see whether your allotment has also been affected. If so, please inform the police. Each allotment has to receive its own crime reference number.
